Shelter Island Wedding | East End Wedding Photographer
Shelter Island is truly a magical place…especially for a wedding.
I am so excited to share Emma & Steve’s beautiful wedding held at Emma’s Grandmother’s house.
Which was just one of the components that made this wedding so unique and heartfelt.
Some of the other ingredients being:
- Emma the bride made her own wedding gown.
- Her majestic Samoyed dog named Kozue.
- An incredible location for bride and groom portraits in the late afternoon.
Here are some of my favorites …
I love that Emma transported her dress form mannequin with her to Shelter Island.
It made photographing her gorgeous gown so much more fun (which she handmade – I know I’m mentioning it again – but she deserves the recognition).
=)
Emma is a nature lover and created a simulated pond of Lily Pads on her wedding gown train.
Kim and Jon from Kim Jon Designs outdid themselves – creating gorgeous bouquets, boutonnieres and a breathtaking ceremony arch of baby breath – positioning it just so in accordance with the location of the sun.
Emma’s maid of honor Mei catching a few winks on Kozue the “walking cloud pillow” as hair and makeup started really early for the 11:30am ceremony.
Andrew took Steve out in their backyard for a few groom portraits before their first look.
There happened to be a clematis plant growing near their first look – so I shot through it – thus allowing a dreamy burst of purple to occur in the frame.
It tied in perfectly to their purple themed wedding.
I love the fact that Emma knelt down on the grass in her gown to embrace her beloved Kozue.
I adore backyard weddings.
I like to think how even more precious these memories become to the bride and groom as well as the entire family in the years to come.
This family is full of dog lovers. Both of Emma’s sisters’ dogs were also in attendance – getting spoiled by everyone.
I love that Emma’s grandfather is intently reading the poem he is about to recite while everyone starts to line up for the ceremony processional.
Emma and her grandfather walking up the aisle as he holds the folded poem in his hand.
I love the way Andrew captured Steve’s parents looking at each other.
The picturesque view from the ceremony site – such a quintessential Shelter Island summer scene.
Emma and Steve are avid bird watchers and the first bird that they ever spotted together was a Purple Martin – hence the inspiration for their purple themed wedding.
I love how they these used various birds for their table seating chart.
Steve and Emma gave such touching speeches as they honored their friends and family.
I think this tot is mesmerized by Emma’s Lily pad train.
Emma and her Mom shared a lively and fun dance together.
Kozue is eyeing up the delicious brunch (feast) created by Dressen’s Catering and Debbie Geppert Events
Such a nice bridal party! Loved them all!
Emma and her sisters.
Mei had the right idea to relax while I took some bridal party formals – it was a hot day!
Kozue posing with the cosplayers.
Purple Polaroid cameras and matching purple guest signing book for precious and sentimental memories.
Kozue following Emma around . . .their bond is so incredible.
Thanks to Michael Variale from East End Entertainment that all the wedding guests had so much fun partying on the dance floor.
Looks like Kozue is gonna get a treat…
The bride and grooms’ parents high fiving each other – it was so beautiful to see the celebration and blending of these wonderful families.
After the reception ended Kozue got another hug before we had some portrait time with Emma and Steve.
When photographing weddings I like to provide a balance of documentary moments as well as creative portraits that are natural and romantic.
The above sentiment signed by Emma’s Aunt Sarah sums up this beautiful Shelter Island wedding perfectly:
“Dear Emma & Steve,
This has been a truly special and wonderful day.
I can feel the spirits of Grandpa George + Grandma Kate rejoicing at your having this day in a place they hoped their grandchildren would treasure.
And I can feel Great Grandma Emma rejoicing that her namesake has her sewing gifts!
All Our Love, Aunt Sarah + Uncle Jim”
