I love photographing surprise marriage proposals and I was especially excited when Marc contacted me to photograph his in Bridgehampton.
Marc had a vision to propose in front of a windmill in the Hamptons.
He searched many windmills and found the perfect one in Bridgehampton, called Beebe Windmill.
Beebe Windmill was built in 1820 and is only 1 of the 11 remaining windmills in on Long Island.
Marc's vision unfolded like a storybook.
One of the things I do in addition to photographing the proposal is to help plan it.
I offer site visits and many other suggestions from my experience.
I've said this before and it bears worth repeating, "Life is not an instagram feed."
Instagram bombards us with proposals that look like a scene from TV show ABC's "The Bachelor."
Rose petals, lanterns and signs, to name a few.
These props albeit are pretty - are a dead giveaway upon the proposee seeing them and will greatly diminish and alter the reaction that you are paying me to photograph.
Unlike the cliche trends of Instagram, no props were used; leaving Amanda totally shocked and surprised.
Allowing me to photograph their pure – raw emotion and reactions!
More photos from this Hamptons proposal can be seen here on my blog.
I love all of the reactions, expressions and affection between Marc and Amanda that I was able to capture as a result.
Furthermore, I think the props will look very dated 5-10 years from now.
Less is more.
The props are distracting and full of fluff.
You cannot go wrong keeping things simple, classic and natural.
Let your love and connection speak for itself.
If you are planning to propose to your significant other - and would like to forever capture their reaction - I would love to document this moment for you.
