In addition to photographing surprise marriage proposals, I help proposers plan them!
Christian reached out to me to inquire about photographing him propose to his high school sweetheart Gaylen in Montauk.
After Christian booked my photography services we communicated through email and phone to plan out the location, where he should kneel, queues, lighting and other various details.
We kept in touch day of via text to firm up any last minute details.
As I was driving to Montauk, Christian texted me that it was foggy (not unusual for Montauk).
I knew the fog would make for an ethereal and magical backdrop.
And the fog did not disappoint!
I have always wanted to photograph an engagement session in the fog and now that wish has come true.
This romantic photo was taken on the bluffs of Camp Hero State Park after Gaylen said, "Yes!"
I bring a lighting assistant with me when I photograph proposals and engagement sessions.
As I use a combination of natural and professional/artificial lighting.
The lighting will fill in unsightly shadows, rendering a more flattering portrait as well as retain beautiful color in the sky and water.
My assistant also acts as a helpful decoy and can help manage any crowd control if necessary.
Photographing proposals are all about capturing reactions and expressions.
After the proposal, We spend some time taking some just engaged portraits to commemorate the special milestone.
